Don - Back in the days when the manufacturers were making lots of
airplanes, the old CAA and FAA later used to assign blocks of N numbers
for produciton runs, and allow them to be used in series as planes came
off of the line.
You see the same thing for lots of airplanes made up thru the 60s and into
the 70s. Piper started Cherokees with 6000W, and many of them have
numbers like 6001, 6002, in series.
Our plane, a 46D model, is 2906H, and hasn't had the number changed over
the years.
I don't know exactly what the practice is now.

Fellow Coupers, (and Couperettes),
I have noticed a large number of 'Coupe licenses, especially 415C's and
D's,
are in the 3000's and have an "H" suffix. Were these planes licensed in a
block? Just wonderin'. I know it's just a bit of trivia, but it's dark
and
cold out, so not too good a time to be doin' important stuff, like
flyin'...uh
oh! I think I hear my wife calling!
