No, it´s not Danish!!!!! It´s Icelandic. It has been Icelandic since
1944, but before that it was controlled from Danmark to 1874 when we got
our constitution and got everything at 1944. In Iceland wheather is
very difficult for flying, but we can make it. On the same day we can
have snow, rain, windy, still, frost, heat, sunny, cloudy, and just name
it! It´s not really cold here as people think, in the winter it never
gets colder than 15°celsius and that comes maybe twice over the winter.
In the summer it´s not that hot either, it gets most 30° celsius but
that´s only one day maybe, normally it´s around 10°-20° in the summer.
For flying here is great beacause the country is very beautiful. The
worst thing about flying in the winter is that you can never count on
the wheather to be the same over the day, so you can only go local and
landings. Three weeks ago I went to the other side of the country and
flew with airline we have here, they have these Fokker 50 planes, very
cool and safe planes, than I noticed how many people are afraid of
flying. We got into some turbulances on the way and you should have
seen some of the big shots there, they were peeing in their pants. I
have heard that Iclandic pilots are good pilots beacause we fly in all
conditions of wheater! Maybe that´s bullshit, I don´t know. But I have
noticed, some of the letters in this discussionlist, say storys from
guys that have difficult in landing in 15knot x-wind, it´s like that
every day here and often more! There is nothing wrong with some wind,
it´s the damn mountains around, they make all the turbulances, and in
strong wind it´s not very wice to fly a coupe here or anyting small. I
have much more to say but now I have to go, so you guys should just go
to next travelling agency and buy a ticket to Iceland and see for
yourself (if you ever come than come in the summer).
Fly safe, no stunts on your coupes,
Gudmundur.
