Criminy, why has this turned into a big problem? The original poster only said he landed in a 45 knot crosswind on one occasion to buttress the point that the Ercoupe can land in a strong crosswind. I don't think anyone here is going to go out and try it just because someone else did it.
This is like mentioning that a wheel fell off, followed by a successful no-damage landing in grass, only to have the whole thing turn into a big hoo-haw about whether owners should be allowed to do their own maintenance.
