Maynard:  We had the same problem with our 415c sn# 766 and the generator.
With the strobe on the amp gauge would pulse on the negative side.  If you
turned on the navs and landing you would get a whopping drain.  Our A&P
tested
the generator and found it was only putting out 9 amps. (also it was full
of
oil). He told us we rebuild it to a 20 amp.  After spending $400 we found
a
inprovement on the  gauge but I don't think we are getting 20 amps.  At
least
the battery has stayed up for the last month and we don't have to hand
prop
anymore.  The jury is still out on if we did the right thing by rebuilding
the
old instead of installing an alternator.
