There are two types of sloshing sealer. The old type which is the color
amber, and the new auto fuel (alcohol resistant) type which is the color
white. In the old days, mechanics made their own sloshing sealer, before
the days of alcohol in the fuel. I won't even attempt to post the
ingredients here. Certain aircraft came from the factory with sloshing
sealer, I believe one is the Tri Pacer. My experience with the amber
sloshing sealer is that it tinted or colored my auto gas (which was clear
unleaded) the color of iced tea. The fuel always burned as if normal.
However, I have experienced a disproportionate number of stuck valves
over the years possibly due to carbon buildup and I have guessed that as
the dissolved (old type) sloshing sealer burned it left more carbon. Who
really knows though? Also, I have noted the absence of the sloshing
sealer products from some, perhaps all, aviation catalogs. Maybe the
manufacturers are afraid to sell it anymore for the same reason that a
lot of things are taken off the market, fear of liability. Sloshing
sealer which is said to be additive resistant is offered for automobiles
in J. C. Whitney's catalog. Caveat Emptor.
