Wayne, sounds like a good idea to me. I would push the tail down to the hook (by pushing down only between the two bolt heads that hold the horizontal stabilizer to the fuselage) and then have someone else attach the rope or strap or whatever to both the tie-down ring and the hook, rather than pulling the tail down to the hook.
