I agree that the Short Wing Piper Club's page is very nice. Also check
out the Unofficial Cessna 120/140 site. I don't have the internet
address, but you can easily find it on your search engine.
Last summer I was a speaker at the Short Wing Piper Club's annual
convention which was held in Dayton, Ohio, very near to my home in the
Columbus area.
I don't know what their attendance was in total, but I had a crowd of over
100 in my presentation, and it was SRO. Their banquet was very nice that
night, and somebody from AOPA talked about the Tripacer that AOPA is
giving away this year in their annual drawing.
I've been a coupe owner for only a year, and haven't attended any EOC
gatherings. But I would certainly use SWPC as an example of how to do it
right.
There are so many things to go to in the summer, especially Oshkosh, that
it's hard to budget time and $$ for all that is available. While Dayton
may not sound like a garden spot, SWPC arranged a private, after hours
tour of the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB for the attendees. If
you've never seen the museum, it's worth the trip from anywhere to enjoy
it, and plan at least a full day for really soaking it up thoroughly,
especially if you like to read all of the posters and signs around the
place.
The Wright brothers bicycle shop is now owned by the U.S. Park Service,
and while not very big, it's really neat to go to the place where it all
began. For car nuts, the national Packard museum is also in Dayton.
So, there are lots of places and opportunties out there.
