OK, what does your directory structure look like?  What backend are you
using (real accounts, LDAP, MySQL, userdb)?  What OS/distro are you using
and what filesystem are the account homes on?

Does $HOME/Maildir (or whatever you've defined Maildir to be) exist?  What
files or folders do exist?  How are your permissions setup?
