Hi, I had the same problema on my slackware 8.0 and answered a about 3 weeks ago to the same question. Probably (as a normal user compiling COURIER IMAP) you haven't the permission to read the /home/vpopmail/lib directory. try to change to 755 the permission on the dir and 744 on libvpopmail.a file.
