Hi,

I am using Courier IMAP 1.6.1 on a FreeBSD based server, and have been using
this successfully for over a month with KMail without any problems until
today. The MTA in use is exim 4.10.

I was moving files from the inbox to another folder, and at some point, all
the files in the inbox were deleted. Checking on the server, the files have
disappeared physically from the inbox folders (new / cur) for the account in
question, with no warning whatsoever, and this was not requested by me at all
(kMail being halfway through a request to move some files from the inbox into
another folder on the server). kMail did pop up a dialog box stating that the
inbox folder could not be deleted for some reason - this was certainly not a
requested action.

I strongly doubt that the files are recoverable, as it seems that they have
been deleted completely, without warning, by the Courier IMAP server
software. If there was a way to recover the files, advice would be
appreciated, but I am resigned to losing the emails.

So I am sending this message to simply report that under some condition, all
files in the 'cur' and 'new' folders in a maildir are deleted by Courier IMAP
for no reason whatsoever. Other folders held on the server were fine, and not
affected by this fault (or misconfiguration of Courier IMAP?). I have a
suspicion that these two folders were unlinked for some reason... then
recreated anew. If the problem isn't with Courier IMAP, then there is a
serious flaw in kMail's IMAP implementation ...

Argh, losing all those emails has left me in shock. They were important :(

Graham
