Thanks for directing me to that Sam, but I've read everything I can find
which is why I'm asking for some direction.  I can only assume that
you're saying that I can't directly test the authpam module because
authdaemon has to manage the messages?  
Either way, I was only trying to provide information.  The main problem
still remains that I cannot authenticate the user when they try to
connect.  I basically receive a 'synchronizing' error indicating that it
cannot fetch the headers in the folder (null) for the account.  The only
thing that is reported is: Jan  4 13:31:57 werlax authdaemond.ldap:
authdaemon: modules="authpam", daemons=5.  I do have the DEBUG_LOGIN
value set to 2, but I don't see anything additional dumped to syslog.
