I found it in the ChangeLog of the courier-imap-1.7.1:

* authlib/preauthvchkpw.c (auth_vchkpw_pre): Disable open_smtp_relay()
until fixed by authvchkpw devs.
Where can I read more about this, because I haven't heard anything,
and if I decide to use it, I don't know how big the security risk is.
