Martin. The RADIUS part can be accomplished via PAM (via authpam in authdaemon). However, I think you are right about the rest of the user's information (UID, Homedir, etc...) having to be located via NSS (not technically /etc/passwd, but NSS, at least on Linux). Now. If you want your users to be completely virtual, you'll probably want to use authmysql or more likely authuserdb, and read the docs at http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/authlib.html
