Courier 0.45.4 on Debian woody, built from source.

If I try to send mail from my laptop to the outside, via courier, I'm getting a 20-30 second delay before getting a "success" message. Mail client is Mozilla 1.7beta.

Reading the FAQ (!), adding "-noidentlookup" to TCPDOPTS eliminates the problem. However, given the remarks in the FAQ, I'm concerned that I'm just putting a band-aid on what may be a more subtle problem.

Since the problem seems to be with the "identlookup"...

My clients/laptops will connect to Courier either via DHCP (when at the office, connected to the LAN) or via ISP (DSL/Cable modem from home, hotel, etc.) The firewall (particularly for the DHCP scenario) isn't blocking the IDENT queries from Courier.

What should I (can I) do such that the identlookups won't have a problem? What have others done to address/resolve this issue?
