Maildirs can be created, as usual, by the maildirmake command.
You say "as usual" as if this is something I should know, perhaps because I've done this before in some other permutation. So let's get this out of the way first thing: I haven't. This is my first time configuring anything to do with maildirs. That's why I'm asking stupid questions on this list.
Yes, I've read the manpage. I found it unhelpful, isnofar as it assumes I have some prior experience or idea of what I'm doing. Basic questions that it fails to answer include:
Where should I put the maildir? Are there standard locations?
$HOME/Maildir is the standard location.
You will note:
DEFAULTDELIVERY=./Maildir
In the courierd configuration file.
I guess the user's home directory would be a first idea; is there a "normal" place to put maildirs for non-system users?
What should I call the maildir? Just "maildir" or is there some other convention? Does the name matter?
Although the defaults can be changed, you should start things out very simple, and use the default.
