At first assessment it seems that I might collapse the (potentially
multi-line) Received header into a single line, then test against this
regexp:  'Received: from .*\s+\(.*\)\s+\(AUTH:\ '

Would that work? Do you see any errors in this logic/syntax?

If Courier was able to obtain ident info from the connecting IP address, there's going to be an IDENT: before AUTH:
