What about .mailfilters?

There is no such directory. However, after looking at this, just out of curiosity, I tried something seemingly unrelated - in other maildir I removed .mailfilters/rcptfilter, and mail did come through. This was maildir for second recipient of this message.

But this does not explain the behavior seen - last time, five days ago similar
