The first step is to contact your company's Legal and Compliance, (or your outside council), and have them furnish you, in writing, a guarantee that you will not be held responsible for being unable to identify the sender of an E-mail message that was used to deliver the company jewels to a competitor (or evidence of some improper or illegal activitise that were E-mailed to the authorities).
