Totally concur here. We also use pure-ftpd-mysql (deb package)
in conjunction with the full courier suite and authenticating
from the same MySQL table as does authdaemond.mysql. It's also
postgresql ready as well.. but unfortunately not SQLite ready.

I'm happy to provide some mysql & postgresql configs off-list.
