You can suppose anything you like. But in this case, there's no reason to suppose anything. This is not a closed, black box whose inner workings are a total mystery to known science. The unique identifier list is kept in an ordinary file, in plain view. Rather than supposing something like this, show what does or does not happen with the contents of the maildir.
