Is there anything else I need to modify in the shadow .sent, is there a message index that needs to be updated, or will dropping a message file in there just "do the business"?
If you want to drop a file into the .sent directly you just need to follow the usual convention for adding a file to a maildir: write it to a file in tmp first, then rename it to new (or cur).
Do not open and write to the file in the cur or the new directory, directly.
