Yay Mick! So glad to hear you are working on this! Like I've said to others, Coworking really gels a community. I know Sydney's is strong, but it gives you a real focal point...a gathering center. As far as models go, Citizen Space is pretty simple. We started having meetups and being very open about our progress as we went along and got a great deal of support. We decided to go the break even model and got a small space that was reasonably priced so we could carry it even if people didn't show up. Location is super important...more important than fax, printer, scanner for sure...having it in a walking neighbourhood is essential...close to coffee, food and transit. Our startup costs were low - around $10,000 including all equipment, furniture, supplies, chandelier, etc.
As for what it should cost, I have created a pricing structure model (for monthlies, only) that looks like this: Break even model: (Cost of space x 1.5 = total cost of space) / (number of square feet / 100 = number of desks) = Cost per desk Profitable model: (Cost of space x 3 = cost of space and then some) / (number of square feet / 100 = number of desks) = Cost per desk We don't bother with daily fees...those are free and drop ins add to the atmosphere, but I think Indy Hall charges $15/day. I'll let others tell you more about their space. There is also really great tips if you look back into the Google Group...maybe search: community? starting a space? T p.s. Do you know Lisa Herrod? She was talking about it, too: http://groups.google.com/group/coworking/browse_thread/thread/33ef288aeac251c2/746db75b43a7542e?lnk=gst&q=sydney#746db75b43a7542e On Tue, May 13, 2008 at 6:28 AM, Mick Liubinskas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > There is lots of interest in Sydney for a co-working space. > http://www.liubinskas.com/blog/2008/05/09/sydney-needs-coworking-space/ > > So we're working on it.
