Hi, friends:

An introduction to a new space and an "old member" is in order.

Goshen Bricolage has been in existence in some form since mid - 2008.
I was intellectually and emotionally inspired by articles I read about
the co-working movement in New York, and financially inspired by the
terror of bringing 3,500 sq ft of office space to market just as the
Great Recession hit here in Elkhart County.

Our co-working community has grown to 4 resident members, plus myself
with a consulting business, plus Elkhart County Works Together, a
social entrepreneurship venture that has occupied my best energies
since March of 2009. You can not only get a glimpse of that work, you
can get pictures of Goshen Bricolage at that site. ecwt.org

All this time, I have been not just a lurker, but an avid reader of
the discussions of this group. These discussions have helped me
immensely in getting Bricolage started. But I never joined in the
discussion overtly, for a variety of reasons, mostly having to do with
busyness and a bit of technophobia. The discussion of the Passport,
for instance, is very intriquing. If I had more confidence that
people on this list would regularly be in Goshen on business, I would
have joined! (As it is, anyone is welcome to show up and get comp
space just for finding us!)

Now after a few weeks of end of the year mania with ECWT, I return to
find that the entire discussion of chipping in for a domain name (and
all that goes with it) has passed me by. We're in the tail end of
that discussion, some where between the possibility of recriminations
and post-mortems. (I do believe that the strength of this community
will keep the worst possibilities from coming to pass.) But . . . the
time for me to join financially or verbally in the formative stages of
that discussion has passed.

One could say that I "missed the boat," and that the price of
participation in that discussion is more regular vigilance. And
that's fine. I'm not at all complaining.

I simply want to point out that there are many ways to participate in
both this online discussion group and in the coworking movement as it
is happening on the ground.

I hope that we, as a community, move ahead with further organizational
development in a way that fully honors and incorporates that organic
reality of our community.

Yours in peace,

David Schrock-Shenk
