Good Luck! For myself it's been amazingly tough, however I have don't have time pressures, as I have a great deal with the building owner! While I am not making money, I am only loosing a few dollars, literally!
Here are my tips: 1. Be kind! Bending over backwards to help others have paid off big time. 2. Communication is the key! Blog, tweet, friend - being in the midwest, people don't often think shared resources, as we seem to have plenty of them. However, as times are lean and changing fast, the cookies are really crumbling, thus many people are willing to listen. 3. Show your face. Get known by your local economic and civic leaders - It's amazing how many referrals that I have received from the local chamber. I, also, hang out where the cool people hang out - art fairs, festivals, etc. and seen the fruit of my labor. 4. Find your niche. I actually found a large group of film makers in Fort Wayne, most that have returned from NYC and LA, due to the cost of living. Yes, for the $900 that is spent on the closet sized apartment, you can have a four bedroom home in a very nice housing development. From there, I have developed interest. 5. Work hard! This has taken an enormous amount of time and effort, but I would not have it any other way. 6. Ask for help? Tony, Alex, Tara, Susan and many others have been amazingly, helpful! And beyond this board look around your city; I have a number of government officials wanting to meet with me, and help me obtain the crucial contacts. Again, good luck! It's been a hellish journey at times, but the people I have met through this have literally changed my life for the better! Jodi Dean, Founder OurSpace, LLC Your Space to Be Creative 825 S.
