Well-known software developer Joel Spolsky has a post today about community building <http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2011/05/26.html>. His references are (unsurprisingly) all related to online, communities, but they work for offline communities just the same.
A couple of key quotes I wanted to highlight: Critical mass is that magic moment when the community has enough activity > that it grows by itself. [...] who think they are building communities on the Internet, but they’re > really just building software and wondering why the community doesn’t > magically show up. (replace internet and software with...your preferred medium, like "region" and "space" > [...]you need smart human beings to use smart human judgment and cultivate > each community individually. -Alex /ah indyhall.org coworking in philadelphia -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Coworking" group.
