Hi ho!

About a year ago I proposed to SF.net that they run cpansmoke on
their compile farm. I think this is much more practical now with
CPAN::Nargile.

Their reply stated that if someone "official" came forward and
asked, they will consider it, but that I'm not important enough...

Anyway, you are getting a forward of the ticket spam, and are
welcome to act as you deem right.

Ciao!

Summary: CF: SVC: CPAN smoketesting on compile farm

Initial Comment:
Is there any option of running cpansmoke from a
procmail'ed or equivalent account on the compile farm
hosts?

For my machines at home I have the following procmail
recipe:

:0
* ^Mailing-List: contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]; run by
ezmlm
{
        :0h
        * ^Subject: CPAN Upload:
        |grep Subject|cut -f4 -d' '|xargs printf 'CMD='echo
"nice cpansmoke -t 1200 -aps %s" &>/dev/null'; $CMD|
batch &>/dev/null; $CMD| ssh chef batch &>/dev/null'|at
now + 2 hours

        :0
        /dev/null
}

Lowering the load average threshold for batch jobs with atd
would make the tests run only at periods of low load.

The number of new modules coming each day changes
drastically, but never exceeds a few tens.

Greetings,

This request has been reviewed by SourceForge.net staff.

The SourceForge.net Compile Farm is focussed on providing
multi-platform development environments for hosted projects.
Though the Compile Farm could be extended to provide a
generic build and testing environment for external groups,
this is outside our mission goal and outside the scope of
our current Compile Farm offering.

If an official rep of the CPAN project has interest in
pursuing the use of SourceForge.net services in support of
CPAN, that rep should contact our Site Director at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- this is something that would be
considered, if requested.

Thank you,

Jacob Moorman
Quality of Service Manager, SourceForge.net
