http://www.sara.com/Capability/Tech.html High Power Devices: Through the building of a cross-disciplinary team SARA has acquired the ability to not only study & test various types of wavephenomena, but to harness the unique transmission of high energy waves for various innovative applications. SARA is the industry leader in the development of highly energetic acoustic sources for novel weapons-like applications. The US army is funding the development and evaluation of variousconfigurations of Acoustic Beam Weapon. These are being considered for several missions where the soldier might benefit from a tunable effect, from WARN - to - Non-Lethal - to - CRIPPLING. The Department of Energy is sponsoring the development and demonstration of a facility-installed acoustic device to protect critical national assets. A commercial version called the "Remote Guard-Presence System" is currently seeking a partner in the Facility Protection industry before securing investments which will allow the team to revolutionize the after-hours facility protection business. The "Remote Guard-Presence System" allows a guard at a remote location to project force against unauthorized persons in or near a protected area, and to project adjustable and observable levels of such forces so as to inflict only that level of effect that the guard deems necessary to accomplish his protection/intervention/incarceration objective. Several other High power acoustic applications, including the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's "Acoustic Grenade", are also being matured today at SARA. The US Air Force, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs and SARA have joined together to define, de-velop and test a "Vortex Launcher" antipersonnel device. The Vortex Launcher projects a highly energetic packet of air at over half the speed of sound. The Vortex - which grows to the size of a pizza - would be aimed at a suspect, and would deliver a knock down punch with minimum chance of injury. Applications include riot control and law enforcement.
