*Dear Prof Asha* It appears COL is funding one NGO called Maara and they are organising a workshop on Cr radio in july in Bangalore. I feel it is duplication of the work. I also feel that bringing another element and system to the CR movement at this time will erode into the credibility of CEMCA as well as create doubts . Kindly advice.

We are inviting about 20-25 NGOs from all over the state of Karnataka to participate in this workshop. Seating is for Karnataka based NGOs and has already been filled. We will be taking the participants through the licensing process, hardware, software, programming etc albeit briefly. We will be presenting a model wherein people can set up their own radio stations for under Rs. 3 lakh rupees. This has not been done before in India, but we think there is potential to put up real low cost radios, and we hope this workshop will see some potential applicants for low cost CR. We plan to follow up with these NGOs and also help them to raise funds, arrange local resources in terms of infrastructure like sound proofing, electrical and other civil work. * The venue of the workshop will be Anegundi<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anegundi>village in Koppal District, Karnataka. The dates of the workshop are 3rd and 4th of July 2009. Hopefully this workshop will see an increase in the number of applications from Karnataka, as well as see the emergence of a peer group network of community radio stations in the future. As a part of this project, Maraa is also currently in the process of publishing open learning materials related to community radio.
