Would it be possible to give visual emphasis to the tiles message area when the game's expecting a response to a prompt? Perhaps changing the background color, or drawing a bright border around the message area and a highlight on the last prompt message in particular? Google Chrome had a similar issue with people not noticing that a file that they chose for download is shown in a bar at the bottom of the browser window. The Chrome folks solve that by briefly animating/fading a big arrow over the browser window pointing at the file being downloaded. We probably don't need anything so fancy, but something like the way browsers highlight input fields waiting for input would be nice.
