Hi Where it works (e.g. the Install New Software.... Work with box) DND from an external broswer is really cool. Sadly good file level DND seems to be the exception rather than the rule in the UI. I might hope to be able to DND my preferences file onto the toolbar/menu/status area. I might hope to find a drag source that allowed me to DND my preferences for export, perhaps from the status area. For line numbers, it's clearly a debatable preference. I like them about 2% of the time. So I would like a toolar icon. Just like the show whitespace that GIT forces me to like 90% of the time. Except of course that the show whitespace icon comes and goes as I change views, so I either rummage around for the view that shows it or tunnel down the preferences. Unfortunately, I'm not yet an experienced enough user to know how to customize my tool bars so that I could put these missing icons where I want. Here Microsoft wins. It is easy to DND to customize toolbar contents. Why not a Help-> show commands, similar to the show icons, that provides a folded source of DND capabilities? And while I'm moaning, how do I get rid of the irritating Quick Access box that I don't understand but which makes my toolbars wider than my screen? I just wanted to say "making import/export" easier I think is the better way to address complaints about "initial preferences" .... there is no way that "initial preferences" will ever satisfy everyone and as for myself, it is always the first action I take with a new installation or workspace (to import my own favorite preferences, carefully exported in date/time stamped files :). And, yes, sometimes its a bit cumbersome ... but ... I'm not sure how it could be easier ... though perhaps adding an obvious action on "welcome screen" to "import preferences from previous installation or workspace" would make some sense ... if someone was willing to do the work :) |
