Hello committers and contributors,

Earlier today, an update was made to the mechanism that updates Github
access permissions for project users. There was an error with this update
that resulted in committers being used in place of the contributors list,
leading to a large amount of erroneous changes to the contributor teams for
many projects. This was halted once it was noticed, and a patch was quickly
issued by the team. Access should now be restored for all users who had
their access revoked due to this issue.

While we endeavour to test these changes as well as we can in development,
testing against the Github API has always been a challenge. In the face of
this issue, the team will look in the coming months to improve our testing
methods and harnesses around Github syncing to better prevent these events
in the future. To this end, an issue in our repository has been created to
track the implementation of these tests:
https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/it/webdev/eclipsefdn-vc-tools/-/issues/273

We apologise for the noise in your email inboxes due to this issue, and
will strive to improve processes to better prevent such events in the
future.

Regards,

Martin Lowe (they/them)
