Yeah, 'test' is a non-standard make target. Its been there since the early 
days, so we can't really remove it in favor of the standard 'check' target. 
However, 'test' and 'check' are the nearly the same recipe. Also see 
https://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/html_node/Standard-Targets.html.

We don't really conform to GNU standards, but its something I try to honor 
when possible. I think it helps those who have accumulated the knowledge. I 
know it helps me when I audit a package I am not familiar with.
