Hmmm.... Did you try:
$ make -f GNUmakefile-cross lean HAS_SOLIB_VERSION=0
Here's what I got after a build:
$ ls -l *.so*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 jwalton staff 18524704 Jan 5 14:48 libcryptopp.so

I don't see -Wl-soname when I use the command above (see results below).
Maybe its an old artifact. Did you perform a 'make clean' or 'make
distclean'?
