Yes, you're on it :)

As far as talking with developers, Crypto++ is kind of different. The
library was written by Wei Dai, so he's the one lone developer.

Wei is kind of busy at the moment, so he turned things over to the
community. That leaves an administration gap, so there are 4 or 5 people
who can check-in changes.

I'm one of the folks with the privilege, but I basically consider myself a
steward until Wei returns. I try to look out for the library user's best
interest, and the library's best interests.

I am looking into source code. There isn't much documentation, so any guide

Yeah, I know the pain. Believe it or not, its gotten a lot better over the
last few years.

The API docs are located in the Manual. They tell you how to call
functions, but they are missing the larger context. You can find a link to
the Manual at the top of the homepage (https://www.cryptopp.com/).

The extended docs that go into detail is located at the Wiki. Its not
complete, but it goes a long way to help close the gap with the API docs.
You can find a link to the Wiki at the top of the homepage
(https://www.cryptopp.com/).

A fellow named Denis Bider wrote a guide to Crypto++ years ago. I think it
was written in the context of Crypto++ 4. Many of the concepts still apply
today. You can find his guide at http://www.bitvise.com/users-guide.html,
or in the Wiki at http://cryptopp.com/wiki/Category:User_Guide.

We don't use IM or Chat because its of limited usefulness. I don't know any
IRC or Chat software that produces searchable log files like Newsgroup or
Mailing List archives, so any information shared on the channel benefits
one person and is effectively lost. Because of the gaps, I prefer the User
Group for contemporary or transient information (like the build is broken
on ARM or MinGW), and the Wiki for long term dissemination of information
(like how to use the library to decrypt in AES/CBC mode).
