Plan as follows:
1) Remove rooms and monsters from my demo. I get occassional crashing in my game and I think its because I made my rooms or monsters wrong.
2) Make 1 medium sized room
3) Allow networked fighting, 1v1,2v2, up to as high as capacity is feasable.(broadband only game)
4)Add fighters and new moves to each fighter.
5) Classify moves by their strength and calibrate them to the level of the fighter.
6) Make fighting at different levels, and try and balance every fighter across each level 1-100.
In the actual game, once you hit 100, you can start back at 1 in another disicpline, only takes double experience per level. But when you hit 100 again, you can choose moves from either class, and instead of 1000 hps, you'll have 1100. You can do this for all 12 fighters, but it may take longer than a man lives.
7) Really
really fine tune the fighters so the game is fun PVP.
8) After a year or so of that, I'll get involved making a generic map maker(something CS needs badly). You can see why I want to get my game semi playable before I make monsters and levels. I want to feel like I accomplished something before jumping into a 3-5 year project. Its easier to recruit helpers to a project if it seems like its gaining momentum and will be accomplished.
9) I'll make a large overland map with my map maker, and some dungeons.
10) Add towns/monsters/dungeons/castles/etc
11) Flesh out the game how I want it done. This will involve an end game unlike any other MMORPG. My real desire is to showcase how a MMORPG should be done, but I won't be able to do this for years. I always thought people would naturally learn what can make a MMORPG fun, but the corporation thinks the leveling grind is all there is. I'm
lucky because I believe I can make a game that no one else is going to make in the next 20 years.
First things first, get a networked fighting game on the net, then add fighters, moves, and balance it all. I think it will be fun, running a purely Tekken style game that allows net play AND more than 2 fighters. That in itself will be a first, but not nearly as fun as I imagine a MMORPG using it as the core will be. I even envision using the environment to fight, like River City Ransom, where you could throw stuff or ride on things. My coding computer crashed, so there will be no linux version for a long while. I don't think I'll make a linux version until the final compiles 10-15 years from now. I'm stuck in ugly Visual Studio 6. UGH. Well its better to code in than to have nothing. This and I have the final version of DirectX before it goes Vista only!
I just hope
I can get the thing to compile tomorrow. I have too much coded already to let it go to waste.
