I was asked this after class last week, and don't think I have responded to the list.
Q. "Do we need to keep track of strings?"
That is, /* this is a comment */
"But since we are in quotes, /* this is not */ a comment."
A. You do not need to deal with comments in strings.
Note that the idea of an FSM makes it easy to add
logic to catch this case.
Note that strings have their own subtleties
"This is not the end \" of this string."
