I'm very sorry that I missed the opportunity to network with some of you last week. I tried but I just ran out of time. I've been very involved in networking both online and offline for many years.
I've set up a group at Yahoo focused on New Zealand to celebrate the book "The Virtual Handshake" co-written by my friend Scott Allen. There is a great wealth of expertise in this group. You can tell that by reading the posts. Below is a note about the new list for your information. ********************* We have formed a new list for New Zealand members of social and business networks. LinkedIn, Ryze, Soflow, Ecademy, Yahoo, Google Groups, OpenBC, Academici, Zero Degrees, whatever you belong too. The group will over time review the new book "The Virtual Handshake", but I still recommend that you buy a copy. >From my preview copy of "The Virtual Handshake" by David Teten and Scott Allen. People have always found it helpful to maintain relationships with other people. In the last few years blogs, social networks, listserv's, personal web sites, instant messaging and web conferencing have created the ability to build a much larger and more effective network. While most people know about this technology, very few people are making good use of the power of these tools. (JV) The importance of using online communication tools for networking is poorly understood in New Zealand. This is a activity that everyone with online access should be using. To begin you need to have the confidence to join a group. From then onwards group membership should increase your confidence, teach you about things you don't know about and direct you towards other groups that you should also join. What you can learn online is 10 times as valuable as anything you might want to sell online. People don't understand that yet. You learn from people you KNOW much more easily than you learn from strangers. Meeting and making friends with people serves that purpose. They become your peer, your friends, and also your teachers. (Of course at some time you become a teacher too.) Start at the edge. Once you become involved it will become more obvious how you should proceed. The group; Virtual Handshake New Zealand is one good place to start. Here is the address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VirtualHandshakeNZ/ Please feel free to share this post with others. It may be the very best present you can give to your friends. Regards John S Veitch Christchurch --> via Canterbury Software email forum: Success through Connections Replies will go to the CSForum.
