A personal appeal to the members of this list..
The issue of Open Source has, and will continue to generate discussion
and cause people to form, and subsequently air their opinions. They will
not always agree.
Can I put it to all parties that the [CSForum] mailing list is not the
right place to express those opinions, neither corporate or personal.
I think Dave Lane has made fair use of the list, using it to announce
the existence of the opensourcenz initiative, and in making others
within the Canty. software community aware of the open letter to govt.

He has also established a forum, by way of the [opensourcenz] mailing
list, expressly for the purpose of discussing this initiative and the
issues surrounding it in a free and open manner.
Can I propose that all further discussion of this issue takes place in
the [opensourcenz] mailing list, and that all those wishing to express a
view, subscribe and post to that list.
The Canty. Software Cluster was established to act as a catalyst for the
local software industry, to provide networking opportunities for local
businesses and provide assistance to growing businesses. That assistance
comes in many forms, from many sources, ranging from hard working
individuals, mentors, small businesses through to the larger corporates
with local presence. It is also one of the few formal channels through
which Govt. helps US.
The Open Source NZ initiative was established to promote awareness of
Open Source software in NZ and to articulate the view held by a a
growing number of experienced software people; that Open Source Software
provides a viable toolset which can, and should be used to address some
of the IT infrastructure issues facing this country.
I believe that both of these have merit, and given the chance, will grow
and benefit the local software and business communities in their own way.
Let's not damage them at this early stage in their respective lifecycles
by debating the issues in the wrong forum.
The [CSForum] mailing list should revert to it's intended role;
providing a networking mechanism for cluster members to ask questions
and help eachother with the issues facing their businesses.
I feel strongly that further discussion of this issue should take place
on the [opensourcenz] forum.
