Sound really
useful. The universities have good international alumni clubs
too,
and many have formed consortia with other universities. How could
we
link into all the clubs with overseas business links which our
members
belong to? For example, I can probably send stuff to the
Cranfield
Management Association, which is linked to MIT and Insead +
others, but they
don't have an email network yet - [could someone market
networking
site/software to universities?]. Can we link to the
British Computer
Society through a member or through the NZCS? Who
else?

I'm wondering if having a workshop to start with devoted solely
to ideas
on how to use powerpoint effectively would be handy. I know there
are
general classes out there on this, but it might be useful for
software
folk to get a feel for what can be done. I'm sure some of our
multimedia
folk would have useful tips....
I know I got some ideas
from the ministerial meeting we had, and found it
interesting to see how
different our presentations were, what worked and
what didn't (such as huge
flowcharts in micro fonts!). A picture, as they
say, paints a thousand
words, and I'm not going forget in a hurry the
great moving graph in the
Jade presentation which listed their success
while dropping them down the
risk axis and pushed the big government
project up the risk axis even
though the latter had chosen market leaders
and sure winners....(remember
INCIS? Who says NZ companies are more risky
than big overseas ones as a
matter of course??)
What do y'all think? Do we add that to the
forthcoming workshops?

Hmm, here's another idea -- should we have a
section on the CS Website
(Friends of CSI? :-) which provides link and/or
contact details for folk
overseas who are willing to be contacted for
advice or business?
We could build it up as a resource -- and there are
the ex-pat Kiwi
organisations such as KEA which could be listed there
(Sandra: would you
be able to check out if that's OK with Andy Lark and any
others?), as well
as a plug for helpful bods like TradeNZ (Cate: got a
summary or useful
links for this?)
Sometimes it's nice landing in a
strange city to think that you've got
someone to meet up with who knows
about the Crusaders and Marmite!
:-)
Cheers,
Vicki
