Hi folks, I've been talking with the TradeNZ people running MarketNewZealand.com which they are hoping to push as THE place to get info about New Zealand exporters.
Things look very much up in the air, what with the various departmental to- ing and fro-ings, and I remain to be convinced whether the time you take to put a listing on their directory is worth it at this point (it seems pretty clumsy and the search system needs a desperate overhaul -- I told them they should talk to SLI, so hope you get a call, Shaun :-) That said, here are some tips if you want to list or improve your current listing chances of coming up in a search: The search checks out the following limited fields, so concentrate on getting any important keywords in these: (1) The first 50 words of your Company Profile Overview (2) The Products/Services titles you select (these are based on a standard set of product/service categories; I suspect more is better than less) (3) The Spec Sheet which details your offerings (bear in mind that each "detailed" description is apparently limited to 500 CHAR) Before you apply to be profiled (a link under Export from NZ), take a look at a company profile on the site and you'll see the sort of thing I'm talking about. SPIS is in there, though you won't find it under Christchurch as we didn't mention it in the first couple of sentences of our overview. (Actually, TradeNZ put our listing in there pulling information off our Website, so I really should go revise it.) Search on "Christchurch" and you get 26 companies; refine the search to the "software" sector, following their search links, and you get five listings comprising companies involved in: electricity project management; fibreglass; food tech; graphics; civil/mech engineering ?! So you can see that the search system needs to be overhauled or carefully massaged if you expect to come up in the listings. There is cognisance taken of word density (software, software, software for you!) and proximity, which suggests some smarts of some form. Good luck!
