You are right, it seems to be needed every single time. I didn't forget
it, i thought it was only needed on first install but that did the
trick. Thanks.

You have forgotten to do the "force_install_dir" again, you must do
that before trying to update. I had the same problem and once I told
it the dir to install to, it worked fine.
