Marco, It's because of the libraries used to compile the ESL against are much newer than what is offered in CentOS 5(mainly glibc). My suggestion is to keep your sanity(instead of going crazy with libs) and use CentOS 6 across the board... keep 5 in the rear view mirror. :)
