Hello, I am a third year student of Electronics and communication Engg. currently pursuiong a project on 'optical networks' under one of the teachers in the e.c.e department! Till now in the project i got to study a number of research papers given by my mentor teacher on a specific area of the optical networks and would just like to share all that i know about 'Research papers and Internships' so that it could be of help to others!!
In starting any project first determine the field you want to do it in in a broader relation, then you find a mentor teacher who gives you links and sources to first brush up your basics of that field..Then after this introductory session, u jump into a specific area of that field which is usually the work field of your mentor teacher( as in my case).. You understand that field by reading the recent research Papers and all the initial work done in that..you can access all the latest reserch papers on the IEEE site..IEEE explore if accessed throuch college labs allows you to view the full research papers and its contents published in various journals..Other than that ISTE site also gives you some relevant information on the research papers published in the past!! You read the research papers of your interest and then collect the information of your project! In research work it is very essential to read a lot and get an insight into the various possibilities and the solutions provided to the problem dealing with your project!! And on the same lines you try n try to find something new, modify some existing papers to improvements OR create a new one.. It sounds tough but believe me it is not..When you get introduced to new ideas and get introduced to new ways by reading the research papers your mind starts working on the same line!! Once it is done you have a number of conference publications and journal publications to your name!! But it is a long process.. Get into it! Perseverance pays in the end. Rest, this is indeed a very good initiative by abhinav! It is very much needed as our college lacks in research work and i would also like to know about the projects which can be carried in other colleges like IIT's and universities abroad, such opportunities, and how to go about them!!
