No, that isn't an error. They are _screen_ readers, not aural
browsers.

Of course most (all?) image replacement techniques still fall over
with the css-on/images-off combination.

Not neccessarily, I'm using Pixy's IR, DIR and Dynatext, which are quite bulletproof.
