Thanks to Susan Welter for the screenshot with MacFF1.04: the
underlining seems to be without a problem, but see the marked elevated
characters (1. screenshot).
WinFF1.04 (3.) shows constant splitting/breaking of the lines, and
DeerPark alpha1 (2.) seems to use a better, though insufficient rounding
correction.

The bug was triggered with different vertical fractional offsets for the
boxes.
Looks like as if there is some rounding correction done in both boxes
(navy, orange), but the (white) positioned float "between them" suffers
from a "split" correction.
As in Carsten's original file at the beginning of the thread, this can
be worse in a flyout navigation. There, the different vertical offset is
more complicated due to em-margins of some elements interfering.
I can't think of a good fix. Anyone?
(Changing some em-margins/paddings/line heights/other positioning
affecting lengths to a px-fixed value might reduce the problem.)
