This still doesn't do anything for people with images turned off, or text based browsers. You might want to consider adding some appropriate text to the link and hiding it via css.
Please ignore this. I was being stupid (it must be lack of sleep... yeah, that'll work...). The alt attribute on the img element would work just fine for this...
