I've got an idea, too. But I forgot it. In the meantime, both methods 
hold +3(that alone is difficult.) and break on +4. If push came to 
shove, I'd go with the /simpler/ css solution(top version) regardless of 
the oversize font factor in IE. Just my opinion, of course...
