Arno,
I don't think you'll have much luck laying text on top of an image. 
Others on the list are far better at positioning stuff than me, but this 
is one sort of crude way you might correct /some/ of the issues:

Cursory tested with zoom in XP_IE6.0 and Linux FF1.5, SeaMonkey1.0, and 
Opera8.51.
