Hello!

There is an excellent page [0] in the list's WIKI on exactly this topic:
why its bad (and ultimately futile) to attempt to control font size.

To quote the opening phrase:

"The short answer is no. A slightly longer answer is yes, but only for
certain browsers. And the best answer is: it isn't a good idea."

There is a good deal of information on font sizing on the WIKI, so that
would be a good place to start to learn about the ups and downs of
specifying fonts/sizes. If you're still unclear about any concepts
mentioned or have questions about specific CSS techniques, etc. please
feel free to post again and we'll try our best to help you out.

p.s. If I could, I would also like to remind people that condescending
and sarcastic replies really do nothing to help the original poster. The
remit of this list is to primarily help those just beginning to use CSS.
Those people, in general, may not be fully aware of the whys and
wherefors that the rest of us have memorized. A polite answer with a
link pointing to the WIKI or a concise explanation would be the most
helpful response.

And while it might not be taboo, top posting is frowned upon, as it
often leads to excessive quoting of irrelevant material from prior
posts. Bottom posting will help remind you to trim posts to the minimum
information required, and helps maintain the hierarchy of the thread.
