No one *ever* do this. If you all of a sudden aren't getting messages, yes, there is a 99% chance the list is down. Be patient and it will come back up. If you really have to know what is going on, email the list admin at [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of 8000 people who can't help you. That should be the last resort with all list problems. Tony, I'm not picking on you, but every time the list goes down at least one person does this, and if we don't send a reminder every time not to do this it will just get worse and worse.
